We drove to San Francisco for a wonderful day (sorry Will, we missed you by a day). The Golden Gate Bridge was fogged in when we arrived, but we hopped on a shuttle tour bus which takes you around the city and the first stop was going over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was windy and very cold!

Proof, despite the fog, that the Golden Gate Bridge exists |
|
I think it is here |

The tour bus was a double decker with open top - brrrrrrr! |
We were able to get on and off the shuttle, so we stopped and strolled around the Palace of the Fine Arts. The grounds look like a Roman temple with Corinthian columns and carved statues. The scale was imposing.
For lunch we went to Fisherman's wharf near Wharf 39. Wharf 39 has sea lions lounging around on rafts. They were funny to watch. They were playing an elaborate game of king of the hill. A cruise ship was just leaving and we had a wonderful view of Alcatraz.

Brenda, this one's for you. This was the view out the window where we had lunch. |

bumming around |

The Sea Princess was just leaving. |

Alcatraz Island |
San Francisco had so many places we would have liked to explore - but we would have needed many more days here.

Painted Ladies |

The Fog was lifting as we were leaving |
